About ABI
The Agricultural Insect Barcode Initiative (ABI) is a comprehensive platform offering a curated DNA barcode database and an integrated analysis toolkit tailored to agroecosystems. ABI is, to our knowledge, the first DNA barcode database created specifically for agricultural insect species. It systematically compiles insect barcode sequences (primarily cytochrome c oxidase I) along with rich metadata from five major Chinese agroecosystems: citrus, potato, maize, soybean, and grassland. The platform provides a user-friendly online interface enabling a complete analytical workflow, including raw sequence submission, quality control, OTU clustering, taxonomic classification, and interactive visualization of ecological indices. By merging high-quality, ecosystem-specific reference data with advanced bioinformatics tools, ABI facilitates precise species identification, biodiversity assessment, and agroecosystem health monitoring. Hence, it serves as a vital resource for advancing research into beneficial insects and sustainable pest management practices.
